Train was going at 33mph and leaked oil into river as 19 tank cars were involved, which have prevented investigators from gaining full access to the crash scene
A federal official said on Thursday speed did not appear to have been a factor in an oil train derailment in southern West Virginia on Monday that sent a huge fireball into the sky and lit fires that still burned three days later.
Federal Railroad Administration acting administrator Sarah Feinberg said the CSX train, which was carrying North Dakota crude to a depot in Yorktown, Virginia, was going 33mph at the time of Monday’s crash in the town of Mount Carbon. The speed limit was 50mph.
