Donald Trump’s decision to name the head of the biggest oil company in the world as America’s top diplomat on Tuesday triggered widespread alarm among environmentalists and critics of Russian influence.

The president-elect named Rex Tillerson, the president and chief executive of ExxonMobil, as his nominee for secretary of state after an intensive and very public search.
