Scottish Power deemed worst offender, with company beset by troubles since introducing a new IT system for billing

More than 3 million gas and electricity consumers have been overcharged by their supplier in the last year due to errors on their bills, costing them an average of £78 each, according to a study published on Friday.

Of the big six suppliers, Scottish Power is the worst offender, according to research by the comparison site uSwitch.com, which found 16% of the Glasgow-based firms customers had been sent an incorrect bill in the past year. The company has been beset by customer service troubles since introducing a new IT system for billing last year.
