The chief executive of Ecotricity talks Tories, climate change and why he can offer customers a cheaper tariff than the ‘big six’

The first time I interviewed Dale Vince eight years ago, his renewables company Ecotricity then just starting to make an impact in the energy sector was housed in a smallish building smack bang next to Stroud railway station. I didn’t dare confess I’d driven all the way from Manchester.

Today the company is becoming a green energy empire: it’s already outgrown its new roomier glass-walled premise and Vince is about to install ever greater numbers of his famously friendly call-handlers in a vast office block adorned with Ecotricity banners.
